The cultural fair offers everyone the chance to pound mochi the traditional way using wooden mallets, or to watch mochi being made in modern electric machines. There will be an ice carving demonstration, as well as hands-on activities for all ages--origami, calligraphy and ikebana (Japanese flower arranging). Delicious yakitori and other foods prepared by local church and community groups will be for sale.

The Community Stage in the Cultural Fair will feature Akikyo, a local Japanese pop band, and students from Richmond Elementary School, the Japanese Play Group and Epworth United Methodist Church Sunday School. There will be martial arts demonstrations by Shodokan and Willamette University and an abacus demonstration by JAMS. Alton Chung will tell a story and students of Sahomi Tachibana will dance.
